Starlink is a wireless internet service provided by satellites orbiting the earth. They relay data down to the earths surface and is received by a dish. The dish also transmits data back up to the satellites to be sent to where it needs to go. It doesn’t require trenching a fibre cable from the roadside into your house, or use the now discontinued copper wiring. Starlink just requires a power outlet to operate.
The equipment you will get from Starlink will be the receiving dish, cable and router. The current Generation 4 dish is either ground deployed on legs, or pole mounted with third party mounts. The dish doesnt have a motor and is fixed pointing just shy of north for NZ. This allows the dish to follow the trajectory of satellites in orbit to keep its connection. The outdoor rated cable connects the dish to the router inside your home, and the router emits your WIFI which is what you connect to with your phone or laptop.
Your Starlink connection is managed through the Starlink App which you can install onto your phone, or via their website to manage your account such as billing, your details and other information. From the app you can see your connection speed, recent outages or drops, and connected devices on your network.

The Gen3 Starlink averages around 200mb down and 20mb up. This is plenty enough to watch Netflix shows, play an online game and have a video call all at the same time
The Gen4 Starlink (Latest version) averages between 250mb - 350mb down and 20mb up, has a much more powerful router Wifi range, and has ethernet ports to connect devices to.
You can purchase Starlink from the official website, or you can purchase a dish from a retailer and create your account on Starlink’s website.
Extra long cable is only needed if your house is 2 story, or if your roof isn’t viable to have the dish installed near to where the router is needed inside and the cable route is further than usual. The standard cable is roughly 14m and comes with the dish.
WIFI Mesh devices are for dispersing your connection around your home. Note this doesn't increase your speed, it allows it to cover a larger area.
We can provide 2 types of mounts:
- Three pole upright roof mount in three lengths. Most common is 500mm tall up to 1800mm tall with wind stays.
- Under-eave type mount for ceramic / tile / asbestos roofs
You can see examples of these mounts on our Starlink installs page
Absolutely.
We have Airbridge Links available to connect buildings together wirelessly, they have gigabit throughput which is plenty of headroom and require line of sight between them. Trees and large shrubs can block these from working, so check out if this could be an issue between buildings.
Airbridges have a range up to 5kms
